NexGen’s supply chain is reflective of the Company’s current stage of Project development and its approach to providing as many local opportunities as possible.
The Company operates in the mining sector and carries out exploration and development activities. The Rook I Project is currently in the engineering and advanced permitting stage. A Site Confirmation and Infrastructure Program to support ongoing exploration activities was initiated in the second quarter of 2023.
During 2023, goods and services were acquired to support site activities, engineering, exploration, and general Project Development. The Company spent$145 million on 490 vendors (Tier 1 suppliers), most of which were in Canada. Spending increased from the prior year’s $65 million as Project engineering and exploration activity at the Rook I site progressed. See Providing Local Opportunities for details on local spend.
Procurement and control systems are in place and continue to be refined commensurate with Company activities and as the Company advances toward the Project construction phase.
NexGen has Benefit Agreements with the four local Indigenous communities. Mechanisms have been established to ensure procurement opportunities are communicated transparently and well in advance to allow for maximum local supply chain participation near, medium, and long-term. This includes capacity building in order to ensure future capability to support Project development activities.
