Role Overview
Reporting to the Chief Project Officer, the Vice President of Engineering is responsible for overseeing all technical aspects of NexGen’s Rook I Project, including:
- Metallurgy and Process Engineering.
- Mine Planning.
- Engineering.
- Commissioning.
This role requires strategic and technical leadership to ensure the successful design, construction, and operation of the project, while optimizing performance and maintaining the highest standards of safety,environmental stewardship, and regulatory compliance.
Position Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership for the design and integration of underground and surface facilities, with a particular focus on processing design to support construction and operation.
- Oversee the design and planning of the Rook I mine and mill, ensuring optimal extraction methods and efficient resource utilization.
- Lead and manage all engineering aspects of the Rook I Project, including civil, mechanical, structural, electrical, and environmental disciplines, ensuring accountability and excellence.
- Apply a hierarchy of controls to identify, evaluate, and manage health, safety, and environmental risks, ensuring they are mitigated to as low as reasonably achievable/practicable while meeting project delivery requirements.
- Identify, validate, and recommend opportunities for mine and process improvements and technological advancements to enhance productivity and efficiency. Oversee implementation following internal approvals.
- Assess potential technical risks, develop mitigation strategies, and ensure proactive management to minimize negative impacts.
- Oversee all phases of commissioning, from pre-commissioning through to project handover to operations, ensuring a smooth transition.
- Collaborate effectively with other project delivery departments and functions, including Project Controls, Procurement, Contracts, Construction, and Health, Safety, and Environment.
- Contribute to mine planning by ensuring alignment with broader project goals and understanding the impacts on project execution.
- Ensure all designs meet regulatory requirements and NexGen’s financial and economic threshold criteria.
- Lead, mentor, and develop team members, fostering collaboration and high-quality deliverables while ensuring integration with other business functions.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in engineering.
- A minimum of 20 years of relevant experience in the delivery of large-scale natural resource projects, with demonstrated success in similar leadership roles
