Site Environmental Coordinator

Role Overview
Reporting to the Site Health, Safety, and Environment Coordinator, the successful candidate will play a critical role in demonstrating excellence in environmental protection at the Rook I site, promoting sustainable practices, keeping impacts to the environment as low as achievable, and ensuring compliance with all environmental regulations. The candidate will work closely with various departments to develop and implement environmental management processes, monitor environmental performance, and foster a culture of environmental protection and responsibility at the Project site.
Position Responsibilities
- Develop and implement environmental protection processes required to minimize the impact of site activities on the environment.
- Conduct field-based risk assessments to identify potential environmental hazards and develop strategies to mitigate risks.
- Provide subject matter expertise in responding to environmental incidents, deviations, and emergencies.
- Provide environmental training and education to employees to raise awareness of environmental protection measures, regulatory requirements, and best practices.
- Foster a culture of environmental responsibility and encourage employee involvement in environmental protection initiatives.
- Coordinate activities at the Project site and support NexGen led environmental monitoring programs for atmosphere, surface water, groundwater, soil, vegetation, and wildlife and other aspects.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret environmental data to assess impacts and identify areas for improvement.
- Perform routine inspections on work areas, fuel storage facilities, and environmental monitoring infrastructure to ensure environmental protection measures are implemented and compliance obligations are met.
- Provide contractor oversight to ensure compliance with environmental protection processes and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Assist in coordinating and supporting the execution of field-based environmental monitoring programs performed by third-party consultants including supporting required air quality sampling collection.
- Prepare regular reports on environmental performance, regulatory compliance, and environmental initiatives.
- Maintain accurate records of environmental monitoring data, permits, and regulatory correspondence.
- Provide site-based oversight for waste disposal and recycling processes in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Develop strategies to minimize waste generation, promote recycling, and reuse initiatives.
- Possess a working knowledge of provincial and federal environmental legislation applicable to uranium mining and milling.
- Working closely with the Compliance Lead, participate and lead assessments and audits to ensure continued compliance with all applicable legislation.
- Facilitate and participate in site-based regulatory environmental inspections.
- Engage with Local Priority Area (LPA) communities, government agencies, and environmental organizations to promote transparency, address concerns, and build positive relationships, as required.
- Participate in community meetings, and stakeholder consultations as needed.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) with a preference for technical fields of study (e.g., engineering, environmental sciences, geology).
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in environmental management, preferably within Saskatchewan’s mining industry.
- Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and permitting processes related to uranium mining.
- Fluent computer skills and proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams).
- Experience in environmental monitoring, data analysis, and risk assessment.
- Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work in a challenging environment.

Location
This position will be initially based in NexGen’s Saskatoon office, with some travel required to consultants’ offices. This role will transition to a site - based position when construction activities are being conducted, as required.
