Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate the continual development of the mine and mill effluent treatment designs using the BATEA (Best Available Technology and Technique Economic Achievable) approach.
- Collaborate with various engineering teams to continuously improve upon the existing dynamic site wide water balance simulations and models.
- Lead the planning, execution, and monitoring of process design and laboratory testing (bench, batch, pilot scales) building upon previous testing.
- Develop testing schedules, scopes, budgets and funding submission requests for the laboratory testing of mine water treatment plant and the effluent treatment plant processes.
- Ensure scopes are completed on time, within scope, and within budget.
- Oversee the process design for water treatment systems and integration with development of uranium milling circuits from the existing studies through detailed design.
- Manage engineering design change management for the water treatment designs.
- Collaborate with various engineering teams (internal and external) to ensure designs meet operational requirements and regulatory standards; including but not exclusive to the water treatment facilities, solid-liquid separation of suspended solids or water treatment precipitates, crystallization of brine dissolved solids, and water holding ponds
- Review and approve engineering documents, specifications, and drawings, including but not exclusive to process design criteria, process flow diagrams, piping & instrumentation diagrams, process stream tables, and process and control narratives.
- Support the Area Managers by communicating with suppliers, contractors, and construction teams to ensure timely and quality delivery of services and products.
- Support the construction and commissioning teams, ensuring compliance with design specifications and safety standards.
- Develop operational plans and procedures for the water treatment plants.
- Ensure the effective commissioning and start-up of water treatment systems.
- Consult on maintenance programs to ensure the longevity and efficiency of the water treatment infrastructure.
- Ensure all water treatment activities comply with environmental regulations and company policies.
- Monitor water quality and treatment processes, preparing and submitting reports to regulatory authorities as required.
- Develop and implement corrective actions in response to any compliance issues or operational challenges.
- Liaise with external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, community groups, and project teams.
- Provide technical support and guidance to project teams and site personnel.
- Ensure all water treatment activities adhere to radiation protection, HSE policies, and procedures.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of water treatment facilities.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mineral Process Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- Registration or ability to register as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng) in Saskatchewan preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in mining and processing industries with a specific focus on water treatment
- Experience in the uranium industry and knowledge of uranium milling unit operations is highly desirable.
- Experience with GoldSim dynamic modelling is highly desirable. Experience with SysCAD process modelling also an asset.
- Experience with reverse osmosis and treatment/crystallization of reverse osmosis brine is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of water treatment processes, technologies, and regulatory requirements.
- Proven management skills, including experience managing budgets and schedules.
