Role Overview
The ideal candidate is a hands-on, safety-driven leader with exceptional communication skills, proven experience managing large-scale industrial or mining construction projects, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Serve as the senior on-site representative with full accountability for health, safety, environmental, and quality performance.
• Lead a proactive, safety-first culture through daily safety meetings, site inspections, and audits, applying environmental controls to mitigate risks and achieve project goals.
• Maintain a high standard of health, safety, and environmental performance across all construction activities.
• Ensure all contractors comply with corporate safety, environmental, and quality standards.
• Oversee on-site contractor safety programs and training, ensuring adherence to all regulatory and company requirements.
Project Planning and Execution
• Lead all phases of site preparation and construction, ensuring all work is executed safely, professionally, and in alignment with corporate policies, internal controls, and approved procedures.
• Prepare the site for construction mobilization and ensure readiness of all facilities, logistics, and resources.
• Plan and schedule construction activities to align with project design intent, technical specifications, and corporate standards.
• Review and execute construction packages, including contractor plans, methods, staffing, and schedules.
• Provide input on the Construction Management Execution Plan and oversee its successful implementation.
Contractor and Cost Management
• Participate in contractor selection, bid evaluations, and early contract planning and development.
• Oversee contractor performance and construction execution to ensure adherence to scope, schedule, budget, and design specifications.
• Act as the primary point of contact for contractor issues, scope changes, progress payments, and change orders.
• Analyze project risks, conflicts, and challenges; negotiate resolutions and make timely decisions to protect schedule, scope, and budget integrity.
• Maintain cost control processes and ensure accurate preparation, monitoring, and forecasting of construction cost estimates and expenditures.
• Produce and present monthly progress reports, lead regular construction and coordination meetings, and communicate updates to stakeholders.
Leadership and Collaboration
• Provide leadership and mentorship to a diverse construction team, including trade superintendents, coordinators, and administrative staff, guiding them to meet project objectives.
• Partner with Integrated Project Teams (IPT), consultants, and contractors to ensure alignment across all disciplines.
• Collaborate with project managers and internal departments (environmental, safety, camp operations, exploration, and project teams) to ensure seamless and integrated project execution.
• Build transparent communication channels with senior management and community stakeholders.
• Foster strong relationships with contractors, consultants, and internal stakeholders to promote teamwork, accountability, and high performance.
• Perform other related duties as required.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- 15–20 years of experience in mine construction or a similar industry, with a thorough knowledge of construction practices and Project safety standards.
- Proven record in managing large construction Projects valued at $100–$500 million.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to facilitate commitment to a cooperative team effort.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present ideas clearly and with credibility.
- A highly collaborative, credible, and communicative style that fosters the development of strong relationships and trust at all levels of the organization.
- Innovative thinking with the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
- Proficient computer skills, with strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Teams, Visio) and the ability to learn new software.
